Alejandro Garnacho started on the bench.
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho took to social media to send warm regards to his former team-mate and Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon after their catch-up on Thursday night. Reguilon spent the first half of last season on loan at United as an emergency left-back due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
The Spaniard made just 12 appearances before his loan was cut short in January amid expectations of Shaw’s return, which ironically never materialised.
In a twist of fate, Spurs loaned Reguilon to Brentford for the latter end of the season, and he is now back at the club playing a fringe role under Ange Postecoglou.
Without a loan move in the summer, Reguilon has been regularly excluded from Tottenham teams but he has recently made the bench, although without getting game time.
On Thursday, the Spanish star finally got off the bench for a brief appearance against United in Spurs’ dramatic 4-3 victory in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Following the match, Reguilon posted on Instagram, sharing snapshots from the night with a caption that spoke volumes: “Look mum, I played a football game yesterday.”

His message seems to signal a readiness for a possible January transfer in search of regular minutes.
A return to Manchester United might not even be out of the equation considering Ruben Amorim’s search for reinforcements at left-back.
Amorim is reportedly eager to bolster his left flank options as soon as possible, especially with Shaw sidelined by injury once more and Malacia only just returning from an extended spell out.
One player who would be thrilled with such a move is Garnacho, who caught up with Reguilon in north London.
On his Instagram story, he posted a picture of the duo sharing a moment off-pitch, captioning it: “Nice to see you little brother.”
In response, Reguilon received plenty more well wishes from the Red Devils’ fanbase by replying: “All the best my friend and all the best Manchester United.”
