Manchester United are reportedly set to conclude their future managerial plans next week, with Erik ten Hag’s position still not safe heading into the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman came under immense criticism throughout last season but provided the higher powers at Old Trafford with something to consider when leading his side to a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The victory means that the Red Devils will be playing Europa League football next season and also justified why some are insistent that Ten Hag should retain the faith of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, the INEOS chief is assessing all of his options before deciding whether Ten Hag will be sacked or well-backed in the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, a decision on Ten Hag is expected next week and club officials have already held exploratory talks with ‘a number of potential replacements’ to ensure that Ratcliffe can see the full picture before making the biggest decision of his time at United yet.

The new investor met with ex-Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel in Monaco last week to discuss how the club would look under his management.

The former Chelsea manager has made it no secret that he is keen to return to the Premier League, and the German outlined how he would get the very best out of some of United’s fringe stars whilst also solving ‘various issues’ at the Theatre of Dreams.

Tuchel spoke of how he would deal with Jadon Sancho upon his return from Borussia Dortmund, as well as Mason Mount following his injury-ridden first 12 months at the club. He also used Antonio Rudiger’s drastic progress at Chelsea as evidence of how he can help players perform at their very best.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and recently-sacked Mauricio Pochettino are also in the frame to succeed Ten Hag at Old Trafford this summer, though a decision still has not been made on whether a parting of ways is the best step to take over the coming months.

Ten Hag is still waiting to hear his fate whilst a review of the season is conducted by senior figures, and several top clubs are also monitoring the situation closely in the hope of potentially acquiring the services of the 54-year-old.
