Man Utd prepare £95m swoop for England pair as Ten Hag identifies ‘best option’ along with Mount
Manchester United are set to make an improved offer for Chelsea star Mason Mount this week and will also bid for an England teammate as Erik ten Hag looks to get his transfer ducks in a row.
Mount is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford having been left disappointed by contract offers from Chelsea, and United saw an opening £40m bid for the midfielder rejected by the Blues last week.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims it is Chelsea’s position on their valuation that is still the “main outstanding issue” with Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag pushing to get a deal over the line.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “It’s clear that Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, appreciates the skillset that Mason Mount has. Though Chelsea rejected the Red Devils first offer of £40m and they will insist on a £70m fee, United believe that a deal can be done.
“The Red Devils have continued to send messages to Mount, making sure he knows how much they want him to join them. He is their priority signing. The player appreciates ten Hag’s way of playing and his insistence on bringing Mount to Old Trafford.
“It’s an exciting project and the player is remaining calm about the situation as there is no issue at all regarding personal terms. United are also happy as they know Mount is keen to make the move, but the main outstanding issue is Chelsea’s position on the price.”
And now the Daily Mail claim United are set to increase their offer this week to £50m to test Chelsea’s resolve.
Ten Hag is also keen on a striker, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has been linked more heavily in recent days, while a goalkeeper is also thought to be a priority.
David Raya is thought to be on their shortlist, though reports suggest he’s agreed personal terms with Tottenham and is begging Brentford to allow him to join them.
Diogo Costa is another stopper heavily linked, but the Daily Star claim United will prey on Everton’s need to make some cash this summer and bid for Jordan Pickford.
The report states: ‘Ten Hag has identified the Toffees number one, with 53 England caps, as the best option going between the posts – from being an excellent shot-stopper to his brilliant distribution.’
It’s claimed the Red Devils are readying a £45m bid.
