Manchester United’s recent endeavour to recruit Uruguayan sensation Manuel Ugarte has been thrown into disarray, thanks in no small part to the player’s representative.

Having dazzled at the Copa America, playing a pivotal role in each of Uruguay’s sterling partnerships, Ugarte has attracted intense scrutiny from the hierarchy at Old Trafford, his commanding displays resonating with Erik ten Hag’s search for a robust midfielderin light of Casemiro’s anticipated adieu.

Poised potentially as the inaugural signing in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s envisioned era, Ugarte’s compelling emergence has not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool being name-dropped by the athlete’s agent in tandem with future prospects for the skilled campaigner.

Despite an underwhelming stint following a heralded transition from Sporting CP, the PSG ace seems destined to make an exodus when the summer window swings open once more.

However, the whereabouts of Ugarte’s next stint on the pitch, while uncertain, undeniably attracts unparalleled attention with confidante Jorge Chijane hinting at a bounty of interest, conspicuously citing one club above others during discussions with O Jogo.

Chijane remarked: “Liverpool? There is a lot of talk but it is not the only club, there are others. There are many possibilities on the table.”

Furthermore, he confirmed the likelihood of an imminent departure for Ugarte from PSG, noting: “It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe the situation will be resolved.”

Liverpool, much like their rivals Manchester United, were left with a gap to fill following the departure of Fabinho in the summer of 2023. They had shown interest in Ugarte before his move to Paris.

The Reds bolstered their midfield with the signings of Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, but they are still keen on further strengthening this area.

Chelsea also expressed an interest in signing Ugarte in 2023, and were favourites to secure his services before withdrawing from the deal, which saw Ugarte make his way to Paris. However, a potential move to England is back on the cards.

Despite limited game time at club level, Ugarte’s talent remains undiminished. It appears that both United and Liverpool will be major contenders for his signature when he decides on his next move.
