Express Sport brings you the latest Manchester United news
Manchester United’s faltering start to the Premier League season has piled the pressure on Erik ten Hag to improve results. The Dutch coach will use the international break to devise a plan to get out of a difficult situation.
Ten Hag has players returning from injury and he is still bedding in new signings. INEOS chiefs are reportedly keen to show patience in the 54-year-old but an improvement is badly needed.
United can still dip into the transfer market if they believe a free agent can improve Ten Hag’s team. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot has previously been linked with Old Trafford and remains without a club after leaving Juventus.

When do Man Utd play next?
An international break gives Erik ten Hag the opportunity to reset after two defeats in three matches.
Last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Liverpool was particularly dismal, leaving the Man Utd boss with plenty of work to do.
United’s next game is against Southampton, kicking of at 12:30pm on Saturday, September 14.
Matthijs de Ligt gives X-rated response
Matthijs de Ligt gave a sweary response to questions over his errors for the Netherlands in their 5-2 win against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The Man Utd star was particularly at fault for Bosnia’s second goal – scored by Edin Dzeko. He was caught ball-watching before the former Manchester City striker converted.
“I think you know how I feel,” said De Ligt. “We won, but then comes the individual part – I should have done better at their second goal, and I know that.
“I don’t really know what happened. I should have cleared the ball but I kept having doubts during the play. It’s just f*****.”
Man Utd backed for top four finish
Former Man Utd defender Wes Brown has backed Erik ten Hag’s side to qualify for the Champions League despite a poor start to the Premier League season.
The Red Devils have suffered two defeats in their opening three games and looked way off Liverpool’s level in their 3-0 reverse against the Reds last weekend.
“I’m very disappointed with the game against Liverpool,” Brown told Premier League odds.
“There are a lot of things that Manchester United can work on, but I still feel that with the new signings, there’s still a lot to show and a lot to give there.
“It might take a little bit of time, but hopefully that starts sooner rather than later and I’m still going to stand by my prediction of United getting into the top four.
“Obviously the game against Liverpool didn’t go to plan after a positive first 20 minutes and then individual mistakes gave them chances, they counter-attacked and punished them.”
Joshua Zirkzee asks Jamal Musiala to join Man Utd
Jamal Musiala has revealed that Joshua Zirkzee attempted to convince him to join Man Utd over the summer.
The duo were good friends at Bayern Munich and holidayed together after Euro 2024.
One United fan asked Zirkzee to convince Musiala to sign for the Red Devils.
The Bayern star, who is reportedly valued at £100m, has admitted that the request was made while they were in the US.
“You always joke around with friends and dream of playing together in a team one day. The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.”

Man Utd urged to stick with Erik ten Hag by club legend
Man Utd icon Nicky Butt has urged INEOS to stick with Erik ten Hag, pointing out that his plans are slowly coming together.
The former midfielder told Sky Sports: “I think that the international break has come at a good time for the manager and team.
“They can focus on some things on the training ground, get some players back fit with no injuries hopefully, and go again.
“He’s [Ten Hag] got some winnable games coming up, but at Man United, you are always under pressure, I think Erik ten Hag knows that.
“To me, it looks like right down the spine, it looks wide open and people can run right through the middle.
“They’ve brought the new lad {Manuel Ugarte] in. so hopefully he can fill the gap.
“We’ve got some very talented players and hopefully we can get them playing the way the manager wants and get some results.
“They’re [Ineos] going to have to bide their time and stick with the manager. If they’re not going to do that, they might as well have got rid of him in the summer.”
Matthijs de Ligt faces criticism
Man Utd star Matthijs de Ligt was criticised by Ronald Koeman after making two mistakes in the Netherlands’ 5-2 win over Bosnia.
De Ligt played Ermedin Demirovic onside for Bosnia’s first goal and was then caught ball-watching as Edin Dzeko struck a second.
Luckily, the Dutch were dominant and put five past their opponents. Joshua Zirkzee got on the scoresheet.
But Koeman was unhappy with some of the errors and said: “Xavi Simons should have done better. He was marking their left midfielder and suddenly walked away from him.
“Of course, the centre-backs are positioning themselves wrong too.”
Pressed specifically on De Ligt, the Dutch boss added: “He himself realises that he was in the wrong position.
“This should not happen, but mistakes are part of football. I think it is unfair to make a big deal out of it.”

Man Utd can sign ‘next Gareth Bale’
Man Utd are reportedly eyeing a January move for versatile Lecce star Patrick Dorgu.
The 19-year-old scored 47 seconds into his international debut for Denmark against Switzerland earlier this week.
Dorgu is often deployed at left-back but sometimes plays further forward. His impact after moving further up the pitch has prompted comparisons with Gareth Bale.
According to HITC, United have pushed plans to sign Dorgu to January after a busy summer transfer window.
They will face strong competition from some of their Premier League rivals, though.
