Andre Onana’s recent form brought under question | Football Digest
Inter Milan’s CEO for sport Giuseppe Marotta isn’t closed to the idea of bringing Andre Onana back to the San Siro. Marotta was involved in Onana’s £47.2million switch to Manchester United this summer which he described as a “very successful deal” for the Italian giants.
Onana joined Inter on a free transfer at the start of the 2022-2023 campaign after his contract expired with Ajax. The Cameroonian shot-stopper won Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana trophies during his maiden campaign with the Serie A side and also helped them to a Champions League final.
His stellar displays earned him a coveted place in the Ballon d’Or shortlist and a big-money move to Man Utd. However, Onana has gotten off to a torrid start to life in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has made a litany of mistakes between the sticks for United so far this season including back-to-back blunders in his last two appearances against Brentford and Galatasaray. Onana now looks like a shadow of the man who lined up for Inter in the Champions League final only a few months ago.
Andre Onana has had a torrid time at Man Utd
There is growing concern about Onana’s recent performances and Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering dropping him after last weekend’s disasterpiece. According to ESPN, Ten Hag wouldn’t be against benching Onana if he continues to play poorly.
Although it is still early doors, things aren’t looking good for United’s No 24. If things don’t start improving soon he may find himself ousted from the starting XI. If that does happen, however, Marotta remains open to the possibility of bringing him back to Italy.

Giuseppe Marotta isn’t closed to the idea of re-signing Andre Onana
“Anything can happen in football, even if those who return do not always have positive results,” said Marotta when asked if Onana could return to Inter Milan in the future. “It was an important experience for him and for us. It was also a very successful deal for us to get him for free and sell him for all that money.”
Last season, Onana only conceded 36 goals in 41 games, keeping eight clean sheets in Inter’s 13-match Champions League run. By comparison, he has conceded 19 goals in 12 matches this season for Man Utd with only four clean sheets in total.
