Anthony Martial struggled throughout his nine-year stint at United
Former Manchester United star Anthony Martial is reportedly on the cusp of joining Flamengo over 60 days after becoming a free agent.
The forward was one of several players to leave the Red Devils upon their contracts expiring in July, along with fellow Frenchman Raphael Varane who joined Serie A outfit Como.
Martial endured a torrid final few seasons at Old Trafford, making 19 appearances for the club last season before injuries meant that he did not feature after December 2023 when he played 56 minutes against Bournemouth before being withdrawn.
Upon becoming a free agent on June 30, several sides have shown an interest in Martial and attempted to open talks over a potential deal in the hope of helping the forward get his career back on track.
However, the ex-Monaco star has bided his time and now appears to have finally settled on his next move.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the 28-year-old is expected to join Brazilian outfit Flamengo after contact was made over a potential move earlier this move.

The South American outfit are desperate to bolster their forward ranks as soon as possible after talisman striker Pedro sustained an ACL injury which is likely to sideline him for many months.
Martial was therefore identified as the ideal candidate to replace the Brazil international, and talks appear to have accelerated quickly and an agreement is now on the horizon between all parties.
The higher powers at Old Trafford may not be particularly surprised that Martial is heading towards a move outside of Europe given that he was given numerous opportunities to prove his worth in the Premier League but ultimately underwhelmed.

Martial was also loaned out to Sevilla in 2022 but he managed just nine appearances with the Spanish side before returning to England without a solitary goal to his name.
United have moved on since the departure of their former No. 11 with Joshua Zirkzee joining Erik ten Hag’s side over the summer from Bologna.
Zirkzee was brought in to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, who arrived at United 12 months ago from Atalanta after a stellar breakout season in the Serie A.
