Manchester United’s chances of signing Andre Onana this summer appear to have improved significantly after a report suggests that Chelsea have given up their own chase for the Inter Milan goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old Cameroon international has been a target for both Premier League clubs this summer as they look for new No.1s at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge respectively.

And although the Evening Standard reports that the Blues actually held talks with Inter over a move for Onana back in April, they now state that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now pulled out of the chase for his signature.

That, in turn, leaves the door open for United to strike – but only if they are willing to part with £50million to get their man.

Onana worked with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax and the pair could now reunite, despite the outstanding stopper only joining Inter a year ago and signing a five-year contract at the San Siro at the time.

The news on Onana could turn out to be perfect timing for United after a twist over contract talks revealed that Old Trafford stalwart David de Gea could finally be on his way out after a 12-year stay.

Onana is considered a perfect replacement for the Spaniard, especially given the fact that at 27 he is yet to hit his ‘prime’ for a goalkeeper.

As for Chelsea’s pursuit of a new No.1, they remain keen on offloading both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga and still have other targets in mind.

Those targets include Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel and David Raya of Brentford, with the Standard stating that Mamardashvili is the likeliest to be the subject of an official bid.

As for Raya, it appears increasingly likely that he will head to London rivals Tottenham after confirming he wants to quit the Bees.

But in terms of Onana’s future, it does appear a matter of when and not if he moves – given that Inter need to cash in on some of their top stars to fund new additions this summer.
