Ruben Amorim is reportedly looking to axe Christian Eriksen from his squad
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is set to axe Christian Eriksen from his squad in order to make way for two new midfield signings, according to reports.
The new Red Devils manager is already drawing up his plans for the upcoming January window, which will give him the opportunity to start building United’s squad to his own liking.
Questions have been asked over whether the current crop of players are best suited to the style of play Amorim wants to implement. He has already made it clear that he will persist with the 3-4-3 system he found success with at Sporting.
Eriksen will reportedly leave United either in January or at the end of the season
As a result, the 39-year-old has been widely tipped to do away with older and less mobile players over the next few transfer windows and replace them with younger, fresher alternatives.
He will start by axing Eriksen, who will not be offered a new contract before his current deal runs out at the end of the season, according to Sky Germany.
It is said that Eriksen is likely to depart Old Trafford in the near future, either in January or in the summer at the latest. He has already been linked with a potential move to Celtic, but his wage demands could prove an issue for the Scottish champions.
Meanwhile, the report adds that United are ‘working intensively’ to sign a deep-lying midfielder as well as a creative player to deploy further forward.

It remains to be seen how the Red Devils will attack the January window, with other reports suggesting that Amorim is eager to sign another left-back. He is also thought to be keen on landing a new striker, with Viktor Gyokeres the standout link.
Amorim asserted his authority over the club’s transfer strategy in his first press conference at United earlier this month, saying: “I think it has to be all together.
“If you are a coach that is coming here and already chose the players he could be wrong. This is a football club that will be here for a long time and you as a coach don’t know that. Everybody has to work together.
“For that, we have to improve the process on recruitment, the data, the profile of players we want, but I have to have a strong position on that because I am the coach. I know how to play, so I think it’s all together but the final word should be the manager.”
