Man Utd will complete three transfers in the coming days.
Manchester United will complete three transfers across a busy next few days, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka reportedly set to undergo a medical at West Ham United. Erik ten Hag is on the verge of adding two long-term defensive targets to his squad after INEOS’ summer clear-out resumed over the weekend.
United haven’t completed any business since selling Mason Greenwood to Marseille for £27million shortly after acquiring Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and Lille centre-back Leny Yoro in mid-July.
But a recruitment rush is on the horizon just in time for Friday’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United have pencilled in medicals for Bayern Munich pair Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt on Monday.
The Red Devils sealed a £60m double deal on Saturday, leaving both defenders set to sign five-year contracts with the option of a further 12 months.
De Ligt will join for an initial £39m – spread across three years – plus £4m in add-ons, while INEOS have captured Mazraoui for an initial £13m plus £4m in add-ons.
And United are primed to sanction a quickfire third transfer that could go through as early as Sunday as Wan-Bissaka travels to London for his medical at West Ham.
The Hammers have struck a £15m agreement with United, who needed to work out a compensation package worth the remaining 10 months of the 26-year-old’s contract.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is joining West Ham.
Wan-Bissaka’s reluctance to depart rather than run down his current deal before leaving on a free transfer next summer held out the switch.
But he will now imminently become Julen Lopetegui’s eighth signing as West Ham boss, simultaneously opening the door for Mazraoui’s arrival.
The signings of De Ligt and Mazraoui will boost United’s summer spending to around £155m after sealing Zirkzee and Yoro for a combined £95m.
Both will be just as crucial as each other following an injury crisis that heavily contributed to the club’s worst-ever Premier League campaign last season.
Those issues have leaked into 2024/25 after Yoro broke his foot during a pre-season game against Arsenal in Los Angeles, ruling him out of action for three months.
Victor Lindelof was also absent from Saturday’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, but the Swede is expected to leave before the August 30 deadline.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag hasn’t had a natural left-back since February, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia absent from the Wembley showdown through injury.
Mazraoui is capable of covering on the left, similar to Diogo Dalot, and could be viewed as a temporary fix, allowing United to focus on securing much-needed midfield reinforcements to conclude their business.
