Man Utd plan to make at least three more signings.
Manchester United are planning to make at least three more signings before the summer transfer deadline, according to reports. The Red Devils have gone quiet since Mason Greenwood’s £27million sale to Marseille three weeks ago, but INEOS are said to be plotting a late flurry of crucial business.
United made a strong start to the summer by recruiting Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and Lille centre-back Leny Yoro for a combined £88.5m in mid-July.
The sales of Alvaro Fernandez, Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek and Greenwood also raised just under £50m, making space for further incomings.
But frustrations have grown among supporters in recent weeks due to a lack of continued activity regarding arrivals and departures.
Pre-season injuries to seven players, six of which are defenders, have left Erik ten Hag’s squad even thinner than in a 2023/24 season that involved 66 different cases of injury or illness.
The new campaign commences against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday before Fulham visit Old Trafford in next Friday’s Premier League curtain-raiser.
There is concern about a potential slow start to a crucial season for Ten Hag and United, but INEOS don’t intend to remain silent until the August 30 deadline.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United want to complete at least three more signings this month.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof are up for sale.
The Old Trafford giants need more sales, though. They are said to be actively attempting to offload Victor Lindelof, which would open the door for a new centre-back arrival.
Like the 30-year-old, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also out of contract next summer, and his representatives are reportedly in talks with West Ham United over personal terms.
Ten Hag will need Wan-Bissaka to leave before progressing with what should be a straightforward reunion with Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
The former Ajax defender has been told he can leave, as has Matthijs de Ligt, another of Ten Hag’s ex-students who has verbally agreed personal terms with United.
There is also interest in reinforcing the Dutchman’s midfield, with Manuel Ugarte, Martin Zubimendi, Adrien Rabiot and Sofyan Amrabat all thought to have been discussed.
But that has been complicated by the struggles to cash in on Casemiro after his suitors from Saudi Arabia faded.
United have rejected two bids from Fulham for Scott McTominay, the second of which was worth £20m, and are holding out for £25m.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen is expected to run down the final year of his contract before leaving on a free transfer next summer.
The report adds that United could add the attack to the areas they’re looking to strengthen further if Jadon Sancho departs amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
