Express Sport brings you all the latest
Savinho made an instant impact on his top-flight debut following his move from sister club Troyes. The Brazilian is City’s only signing so far this summer, with outgoings being the primary focus at the Etihad Stadium.
Kalvin Phillips, Liam Delap and Sergio Gomez have all been offloaded, with the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid prompting Pep Guardiola’s side to return to the market in search of an apt replacement.
Several options are being assessed, including former skipper Ilkay Gundogan. Express Sport keeps you up to date with all the latest news at the Etihad…
Gundogan agreement reached
Manchester City have agreed a deal to re-sign former club captain Ilkay Gundogan, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Barcelona have ruled that they will allow the Germany international to leave on a free transfer, with a one-year contract waiting for the midfielder at the Etihad Stadium.
Positive talks have been held between all parties over the past 48 hours, with Pep Guardiola approving of a move for the ex-skipper.
Man City shortlist Celtic star as Alvarez replacement
Manchester City are reportedly considering a move for Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.
Pep Guardiola’s side are in the market for a forward to replace Julian Alvarez, who left the club to join Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £82million.
According to The Athletic, City have drawn up a two-man shortlist to bolster their attacking ranks which includes Kyogo.
A younger forward is also said to be of interest, though City will push on with their talks to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan before deciding on who to pursue.
Kyle Walker sale decision made
Manchester City will reportedly reject any approaches for captain Kyle Walker.
The England international has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia recently, along with Joao Cancelo.
However, ESPN report that City have no interest in selling Walker so close to the transfer deadline.
Instead, all approaches for the right-back will be rejected and offers won’t be entertained by the higher powers at the Etihad Stadium outfit.
City exit edges closer for youngster
Serie A side Como are set to submit an official bid to sign Maximo Perrone, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Talks are ongoing over a loan-to-buy deal for the midfielder, with Como boss Cesc Fabregas ‘confident’ that an agreement can be reached.
City are open to allowing Perrone depart on a permanent basis but only if a buy back clause is inserted into his contract, as well as a sell-on.
Foden wins PFA Player of the Year
Phil Foden was crowned Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year last night at an awards ceremony in Manchester.
The England international was overjoyed to have been recognised by fellow players as the best-performing star over the past 12 months, on what was a night to remember for City.
Bunny Shaw won both awards on the women’s side of the game, with Rodri, Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

Gundogan holds talks with Guardiola
Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly held talks with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in the hope of returning to the Etihad Stadium.
The midfielder is expected to leave Barcelona as a free agent this summer, just 12 months after securing his dream move to the Camp Nou.
Several clubs have registered an interest in signing the playmaker, with The Times reporting that City are very keen on a reunion.
Gundogan has spoken with Pep Guardiola about a return to the Premier League and hopes that those conversations will ‘accelerate’ the negotiating process.
Barcelona debating striking Cancelo deal
Barcelona are reportedly unsure whether they want to pursue Joao Cancelo in the final stages of the transfer window.
According to Spanish news outlet Sport, the finances involved in re-signing the Portugal international is a cause for concern at the Camp Nou, as well as Cancelo’s ‘attitude problems’.
Barca felt that the ex-Juventus star did not make a good impression on his teammates and staff behind the scenes last season whilst on loan from Manchester City, with some of his behaviour causing unrest among players.
The La Liga outfit are concerned by how Cancelo reacted to being rotated out of the starting eleven, with his attitude to learning of changes not exemplary to younger players and frustrating ‘heavyweight’ stars.
