Pep Guardiola opted not to shake up his ranks over the summer
Manchester City are reportedly planning to splash the cash in January to bolster their attacking ranks.
Pep Guardiola’s side remained relatively quiet throughout the transfer window despite selling Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a healthy £81.5million, welcoming Savinho from sister club Troyes and re-signing Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona.
According to The Sun, Guardiola was asked about his thoughts on several potential signings over the past few months but the Spaniard wanted to keep the faith in his current squad.
However, that looks set to change in 2025. City are said to be plotting ambitious moves for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala as part of a marquee summer window.
Several sides were hoping to sign Wirtz ahead of this season but the German international remained insistent on remaining at the BayArena, but a move further down the line has not been ruled out by the versatile midfielder.
A significant offer would be required to lure Wirtz away from the Bundesliga, but City have set aside £100m already for 2025 which could be used to acquire the services of the 21-year-old, though Guardiola is yet to rule whether he wants to sign any fresh faces yet.

Similarly, City would need to cough up a mammoth fee to sign Musiala, but the higher powers at Etihad Stadium are prepared to leave the decision in the hands of Guardiola and a double deal does not appear to have been ruled out at this stage.
With both targets deemed unattainable in the January transfer window, City are focusing on retaining their talent in the short term.

The Premier League title holders are expected to advance contract extension talks with Rodri in the coming months, amid reports that Real Madrid have shortlisted the Spain international as their next big-name target. His current deal with City expires in 2025, and the club are reluctant to allow him to enter the final 12 months of that contract.
Kevin De Bruyne’s contract with City also expires in 2025, but another extension is being discussed with the Belgian international and those talks are set to accelerate soon. The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in recent months, but the midfielder recently spoke out against that speculation to indicate that he has not even entertained talks with Middle Eastern clubs at this stage.
