Man City tipped to sign £100million replacement amid Gvardiol doubts

Man City should use the £100million they are looking to spend on Joskvo Gvardiol on another position this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that Pep Guardiola should instead look to replace Ilkay Gundogan instead of signing another defender.

According to the Daily Mail, the English top-flight champions have learned that Leipzig want a settled squad by no later than August 12, following Man City’s reported £100million bid for the defender.

Gvardiol has made a total of 87 appearances during his time at Leipzig, helping the club to two DFB-Pokal trophies since 2021.

But, it was the defender’s success at the World Cup where received heavy plaudits, as he helped Croatia reach the semi-final of the competition before eventually being knocked out by Argentina.

With a potential deal to City on the crds, Agbonlahor believes that Guardiola should ignore Leipzig’s deadline and look to strengthen elsewhere instead.

They do not need another centre-back ,” he told Football Insider.

It’s a lot of money when you consider they won the quadruple last season by using a lot of their centre-back options.

“I would instead use that money to fund a replacement for Gundogan, or maybe Kyle Walker if he leaves.

City already have five centre-halves available so it would be strange to spend that much money on a position they are already strong in, so I think there are other areas of the pitch where they would be better off to focus on.”
