Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 on Sunday.
Liverpool continued their exceptional start to life under Arne Slot by beating Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Nicolas Jackson cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s penalty before Curtis Jones topped off a radiant performance by netting the winning goal at the Kop end.
Liverpool have returned to the Premier League summit – winning seven of their eight matches – with a trip to title rivals Arsenal on the agenda next weekend.
Express Sport runs through the player ratings throughout Slot’s victorious side…
Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea
Caoimhin Kelleher – 6
Has a tall order standing in for Alisson. Couldn’t have done much about Jackson’s equaliser, but his long passes weren’t finding Liverpool players.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Uncharacteristically quiet going forward but a solid defensive display. You’d be forgiven if you forgot Chelsea’s left-winger, Jadon Sancho, wasn’t at Anfield before his half-time withdrawal.
Ibrahima Konate – 6
His outstretched leg kept Jackson onside for Chelsea’s equaliser.
Virgil van Dijk – 7
No major mistakes to report, but multiple sloppy long balls invited unwanted pressure on the Liverpool goal.
AndyRobertson – 4
Chelsea had plenty of joy down his side. Noni Madueke made his life a living hell. “Sad to see,” one popular Liverpool account wrote on X.
Andy Robertson struggled vs Noni Madueke.
Ryan Gravenberch – 5
Struggled as Chelsea’s midfield overran Liverpool’s, especially in the first half. Was fortunate not to be booked after a series of fouls.
Curtis Jones – 9
Liverpool’s best player. So effective with the ball at his feet. Scored the winning goal moments after Chelsea drew level – the perfect time.
Mohamed Salah – 9
Reliably beat his man and provided a goal and an assist. Just another Sunday’s work for Mohamed Salah. Only eight players in Premier League history have scored more than his tally of 162.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 5
No player lost more duels than Dominik Szoboszlai. Too easily dribbled past in Chelsea’s build-up. Liverpool luckily didn’t need his spark.
Cody Gakpo – 5
Didn’t have much joy against Reece James before being hauled off just after the hour mark. Only won four of nine duels and committed more fouls than he had shots.
Diogo Jota – 4
Forced off through injury after 30 minutes. Only took seven touches and lost one of his three ground duels.
Substitutes
Darwin Nunez – 7
Received an opportunity to make his mark through Diogo Jota’s early exit. Drew four fouls, completed three tackles and won nine duels in his latest chaotic performance.
Luis Diaz – 6
Didn’t have much say in the game.
Joe Gomez – 7
Won all four of his ground duels to help Liverpool see out the win.
Alexis Mac Allister – 5
Came on and got booked.
