Liverpool have a head-start over Man United to sign 24-year-old next summer

Liverpool currently have more chance of convincing Kylian Mbappe to join them than any of their Premier League rivals.
The Reds have been continually linked with Mbappe since he announced his desire to leave PSG next summer. However, with Real Madrid still seen as the most likely candidate, not too many Liverpool supporters will be taking that seriously.
Nevertheless, ESPN FC journalist Julien Laurens has claimed that the Reds could well be in with a shout.

“Real Madrid are still the outstanding favourite for next summer already,” said Laurens, when asked if Mbappe to Liverpool could really happen.
“I think Liverpool have a case to put forward, especially if Kylian is a free agent. Every big club in England should go for him, talk to him, present a project then he will choose where he feels is the best for him, Liverpool included.

“His mum is a big fan of Liverpool, he likes Liverpool and what they’ve done under Jurgen Klopp. So I think they have maybe a little head start, not to Real Madrid, but to other English clubs. Compared to City, Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Spurs. That’s good for them.
“Now they’ll see it’s a lot of money to pay his wages, plus signing on fee if he’s a free agent. There’s a lot that comes on. But if they have the money or some sort of proposal for him, he will certainly listen.”
Mbappe leaves Liverpool door open
Mbappe to Liverpool feels like a story that will never go away until the Frenchman hangs up his boots.
Clearly, Kylian is interested in the idea of joining the Reds. Even if it’s for no other reason than his mum being a big fan, that emotional connection may always be there.
And, theoretically, if the France international is available for nothing next summer, Liverpool have got to try and play on that.

There will be fans who would disagree, of course. Mbappe has been – perhaps fairly – portrayed as a being a bit of a diva in the past.
With Klopp placing such emphasis on the kind of characters he recruits for Liverpool, maybe that will be an issue. His enormous wages would likely dwarf any of what the Reds squad currently earn, too.
But, armed with a potential sale – and salary clearing – of Mohamed Salah, Liverpool could feel like making a splash.
Mbappe’s talent and star power surely outweigh any potential negatives of signing him. Besides, with Klopp clearly the top dog at Anfield, the shenanigans we’ve seen from him at PSG wouldn’t be tolerated. If the boss gives the go ahead and the finances make sense, we’d be all in.
