As the January transfer window flings open, Liverpool have been advised on which two stars could bolster their ranks.

After topping the table in both Premier League and Champions League in the first half of the campaign, Arne Slot’s side are in a strong position on all fronts and the Dutchman could kickstart his tenure with domestic and European success.

Despite their good form, the Reds could look to enhance their chances of lifting several pieces of silverware further by dipping into the transfer market, with countless stars already being linked with the club. One name not yet pegged as a Liverpool target though is Aston Villa’s forward Jhon Duran.

However, ex-Liverpool playmaker Didi Hamann has tipped his former club to keep tabs on Duran, as speculations about Darwin Nunez’s fate at Liverpool swirl.

Hamann didn’t hesitate to also comment on Harry Kane, the former Tottenham skipper and now Bayern Munich talisman. He told Boyle Sports: “Could Liverpool move for Harry Kane? To be honest, he seems happy at Bayern Munich and I don’t think Munich want to sell him either.

He added a dose of reality about Liverpool’s spending tendencies: “I don’t think that will happen and Liverpool have never been the biggest spenders, so it’s unlikely.”

The former German international went on to heap praise on Duran and explain what he could offer at Anfield, commenting: “However, Jhon Duran is a brilliant player and the way he plays, it always helps having a player with a physical presence up front. He created space up front and made a huge impact for Villa – I certainly think Liverpool need to keep an eye on him.”

He also signalled the need for Liverpool to scout replacements for Andy Robertson, earmarking Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a potential star in the left-back position for the Reds. Hamann said: “Milos Kerkez is a brilliant player. We see it time and time again in the Premier League. “If you play well, you will gain a lot of interest. Andy Robertson is in his late 20s and Kostas Tsimikas is a great back up – but he has wanted to leave for the past two seasons now.”

He emphasized: “It’s a position Liverpool should definitely look at. Robertson is a great player who is having a dip at the moment. If there is a player with the level of Kerkez or Alphonso Davies, why not go for it.”

Reflecting on similarities with a fellow former Liverpool star, he said, “Kerkez reminds me of John Arne Riise a lot. Riise liked to bomb forward and was a very attacking left-back. He had a great strike on him. It’s a bonus if you have a full-back who defends very well and is able to score, set goals up and cross a few balls in. It makes the game a lot easier.”
