Liverpool could face the prospect of playing four matches in 11 days in February
Liverpool could face a nightmare run of Premier League games in February after their clash with Everton was postponed on Saturday. The Merseyside derby was cancelled hours before it was due to get underway after Storm Darragh wreaked havoc across the north west.
Everton confirmed the match had been shelved in a statement on their website on Saturday morning.
And the Reds’ title rivals Chelsea took full advantage of the postponement as they defeated Tottenham 4-3 on Sunday.
Liverpool’s trip to Everton will need to be rearranged for a date in 2025 as the packed festive schedule means there are no opportunities to play it before the end of the year.
Arne Slot’s side are in action against Girona in the Champions League tonight (Tuesday) and will virtually guarantee their place in the last-16 of the competition if they pick up maximum points.
The Reds have won all five of their European games to date and are two points clear of Inter Milan at the top of the table ahead of the final three group matches.

Liverpool dropped two points in their 3-3 draw with Newcastle last week
If Liverpool do qualify for the knockout phase, they will avoid a two-legged play-off. Those play-off matches are scheduled to take place in mid-February before the last-16 commences at the start of March.
And there will be a window of opportunity for the game at Goodison Park to be played on either Tuesday, February 18 or Wednesday, February 19 in the absence of any Champions League duties.
February’s television picks were confirmed by the Premier League on Monday, with Liverpool hosting Wolves in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Sunday, February 16 before the same broadcaster screens the Reds’ trip to Manchester City a week later.
And if the Premier League decide to squeeze Liverpool’s trip to Everton in between those clashes, Slot’s men will be faced with the prospect of playing four matches in the space of 11 days, with Newcastle visiting Anfield on Wednesday, February 26.

So while the Liverpool players may be benefitting from the extra rest ahead of the Christmas fixtures, it may come back to haunt them next year.
Liverpool are enjoying a sensational season under Slot and moved nine points clear at the top of the league table after overcoming Manchester City 2-0 at the start of the month.
That advantage has been cut to four points by Chelsea, however, after the Reds dropped points in their 3-3 draw with Newcastle last week before their game at Everton fell by the wayside. The Blues have won their last four Premier League encounters and are eyeing up their first title since 2017.
