Liverpool continue to be linked with a blockbuster summer transfer for Jamal Musiala.
Liverpool are among the several Premier League giants tracking Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who has been one of the stand-out players at Euro 2024 so far. He scored in both of Germany’s opening two victories, sealing qualification to the knock-out stage as a far-too-early contender for player of the tournament.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Musiala, who is open to a move to England. However, the Bundesliga runner-up’s asking price would likely be untenable for Arne Slot’s outfit, unless they can lower that valuation by offering players in exchange.
Here, Express Sport look at three players who could head in the opposite direction as Musiala’s summer transfer value continues to explode.
Luiz Diaz
If Musiala were to arrive at Anfield, he would likely command a spot in the front three, potentially on the left where he has thrived under Julian Nagelsmann.
That spot could be vacated by Luis Diaz, who continues to be linked with a move to the likes of Bayern, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, with his desired wages reported to be a stumbling block in penning an extended stay in Merseyside.
Musiala rejected a new deal with Bayern in March, which could open the door for Diaz to head to the Allianz Arena and potentially solve the German giants’ conundrum of finding a successor to their English-raised star.
Luis Diaz’s Liverpool future remains in doubt.
Joe Gomez
With new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany on the search for a centre-back this summer, Joe Gomez has emerged as an option if Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah turns down a move to their Bundesliga rivals.
Gomez enjoyed his best year in a Liverpool shirt last season, with his versatility invaluable to Jurgen Klopp during their injury crisis, but it remains to be seen how he will fit in under Slot.
He even won a place back in the England setup for Euro 2024, but may well be considered fourth-choice by Slot after Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate and Jarrell Quansah, and the ideal makeweight to lower any fee for Musiala.
Sepp van den Berg
Sepp van den Berg has already revealed his burning desire to leave Liverpool this summer after a stellar season with Bayern rivals Mainz. Bayern will have noticed the promising Dutchman and even with the arrival of compatriot Slot, the 22-year-old is set to depart.
With further defensive reinforcements sought by Bayern, Van den Berg may get the chance to continue his development in the Bundesliga, a league the £20m-rated centre-back has already gushed over.
“(Liverpool) didn’t exude confidence in me all this time, but you do want to hinder my future,” he said in an explosive interview. “I want to keep playing every week and develop myself further. In Germany, I enjoy Dortmund away with 70,000 people, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen, against clubs like that I am challenged every week.”
