Liverpool and Chelsea will be on red alert after Leeds missed out on promotion to the Premier League on Sunday. The Yorkshire giants are now under pressure to offload a whole host of star players to adhere to profit and sustainability rules, with the Merseysiders and the Blues both said to be interested in snapping up winger Crysencio Summerville.

Leeds missed out on automatic promotion from the Championship by six points as Ipswich finished runners-up behind champions Leicester.

The Whites then blew Norwich away in the play-off semi-finals as they defeated the Canaries 4-0 over two legs. But they were underwhelming against Southampton at Wembley in the play-off final, with Adam Armstrong finding himself in acres of space to score the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds will have to raise almost £100million in player sales following their play-off final defeat to offset their continued operating losses of £106m.

Up to 10 players could be sold, with club chiefs targeting free transfers and loan signings to replace them. And Summerville is the most likely player to leave.

Liverpool are seeking a wide creative-minded player as a priority, according to 90min, and could approach Leeds to thrash out a deal for Summerville this summer. The Reds have a good chunk of money available to spend and are targeting the 22-year-old Leeds man instead of Newcastle ace Anthony Gordon.

Meanwhile, Chelsea scouts have watched Summerville this season, according to TEAMtalk, and have been impressed by what they have seen.

Summerville joined Leeds from Feyenoord in the autumn of 2020 and made 28 appearances in the Premier League last season during a breakthrough campaign. He has been a star player for the Whites this time around and was named the Championship Player of the Season after bagging 20 goals and nine assists in 46 league appearances.

And his suitors would have to stump up a transfer fee in excess of £30m to secure his services, with Aston Villa and Newcastle also watching the Netherlands under-21s international in action this season.

Leeds could also look to cash in on their most valuable assets Illan Meslier, Willy Gnonto, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray even though their losses will be reduced to £34m when the transfers of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City and Raphinha to Barcelona are accounted for.

One-cap England international Patrick Bamford, who scored 17 Premier League goals three seasons ago, will also be shown the exit.
