Liverpool have advertised for their first set-piece coach on networking platform LinkedIn as they seek to finalise Arne Slot’s coaching team. Slot is set to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout next season.

The Dutchman is widely expected to bring assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters with him from Feyenoord. Slot leaves the Dutch club after winning an Eredivisie and, more recently, a KNVB Cup title.

But it appears Slot will also work alongside a specialist set-piece coach. During his nine-year reign, Klopp never had a member of staff hired on a permanent basis to work exclusively on dead-ball situations. That is set to change under the new head coach.

A job advert posted on LinkedIn says that Liverpool are looking for at least a UEFA A-license holder to “be a tactical specialist responsible for maximising the team’s performance in all set-piece situations”.

The advert continues: “This involves thorough analysis, meticulous planning, and the ability to expertly coach both offensive and defensive set-piece strategies.”

Among the responsibilities include analysing opposition set-piece, designing defensive strategies to counteract opposing teams, and creating a database of set-play routines tailored to the strengths of the first-team players.

Klopp was extremely close with his coaching staff and many are set to depart alongside the German. Among those leaving is assistant goalkeeper coach Jack Robinson, who Klopp recently mocked for turning up to his job interview in a suit.

“We were all sitting in the coaches’ room and Jack came in for his, how do you call that? First talk. And he wore a suit!” Klopp bellowed in an interview for LFCTV alongside his coaches.

“I mean, he’s a goalkeeper! They do strange things, but we were used to other goalkeepers (points to John Achterberg), obviously.

“And he shows up in a suit! We watched the video, and he was like the perfect footballer! I said, ‘Why is he not playing’? He can shoot with the left, shoot with the right. He’s incredible. And then this guy looks like he wants to sell insurance!”

Liverpool are set for a hugely busy summer with Slot due to build a team in his image. Owners Fenway Sports Group have restructured the club’s hierarchy to cope with the influential Klopp’s departure.

Former sporting directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward have taken up roles within the ownership group. Richard Hughes has joined from Bournemouth to take up the ex-job title of Edwards and Ward.
