Jurgen Klopp has been lined up for a new job just a month after leaving Liverpool
Former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is reportedly poised to receive his first managerial job offer since leaving the club at the end of last season. The German has been targeted by the USA men’s national team, who are keen to appoint a high-profile manager following the sacking of Gregg Berhalter.
Berhalter’s second stint in charge of the USA was brought to an abrupt end after their Copa America group stage exit this week on home soil.
The 50-year-old had proved to be unpopular with some players in the squad, notably Gio Reyna, who ‘liked’ a post confirming his departure.
According to The Independent, USA chiefs have identified Klopp as their top target to replace Berhalter and have opened dialogue by making ‘initial contact’ with his representatives through an intermediary. They want a world-class manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which they will co-host with Canada and Mexico.

The USA will be looking to maximise their performance in their first tournament as hosts since 1994. The USMNT have a bright future with a young crop of players, including Reyna and Yunus Musah, to build on their performance in Qatar 2022 where they reached the round of 16.
Klopp is currently out of work after deciding to step down from his role in January after nearly nine years in charge of the Premier League club, having won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.
The 57-year-old cited burnout and a “lack of energy” as the reasons behind his exit, which left Reds fans and players stunned given his seismic impact on the club since arriving in October 2015. Liverpool chiefs moved to replace him with Dutch coach Arne Slot in June, with the ex-Feyenoord coach officially beginning work on July 1.
The USMNT sacked Gregg Berhalter following their Copa America exit
Klopp has been enjoying his downtime with a recent holiday on the Balearic island of Majorca, where he owns a property, and playing padel during his sabbatical. But a move into international football could appeal, following other coaches such as Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann into a national team job – especially if Klopp prefers to have a more relaxed workload in his next role.
If he decides to move forward with the USA, he would have his work cut out for him after a disappointing performance at the Copa America.
Berhalter’s side struggled for consistency in the build-up to the tournament and suffered group stage defeats at the hands of Panama and Uruguay.
