Jurgen Klopp really wants Liverpool to sign ‘sensational’ forward they can get him for just £38m
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains a huge admirer of Federico Chiesa, as the forward ponders an exit from Juventus.
Chiesa has seen his star fall considerably in the past two years, with injuries disrupting his ascent to stardom. With Juve falling into the Europa Conference League next season, Gazzetta dello Sport report that the time may be right for a mutual parting of the ways.
Should that come to pass, then Klopp – as well as Thomas Tuchel of Bayern Munich – are claimed to be the the managers with the most interest.
Solidify that interest, and it’s claimed that an offer of around £38m could be ‘unmissable’ for Juve.
The Italians are already said to be sounding out replacements for Chiesa. In the event that he does leave, Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds United and Galatasaray’s Nicolo Zaniolo are both claimed to be targets.
Chiesa paying the price for injury issues
Something sounds like it has categorically broken between Chiesa and Juve. As a result, maybe the forward could even be on the market for less than the price quoted here.
In that case, perhaps he’s worth a shot for Liverpool. Turning twenty-six in October, Chiesa is still of a good age for a Klopp signing.
He’s shown in the past that he can be absolutely electric and is also versatile across the front line. The legendary Gigi Buffon called him ‘really special’ for his displays at Euro 2020, for instance.
With Liverpool losing Roberto Firmino – and perhaps Fabio Carvalho – from their forward options, some would like to see Klopp bring in another.
In terms of price, age, everything really, Chiesa has the right profile to be that man.
Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t quite looked like the same player since a knee injury late in 2021. A pattern of niggly injuries since has seen him play just 35 Serie A games across the last two seasons. That would be a worry.
But chances to pick up these kinds of players for good fees don’t come all that often. There is still a real player in Chiesa, there simply has to be. With Klopp a known long-term admirer, we wouldn’t rule anything out just yet.
