Jurgen Klopp has offered an emotional update to fans just five days after quitting as Liverpool manager. The German transformed the Reds during a nine-year reign on Merseyside but headed through the Anfield exit following last Sunday’s showdown with Wolves in the Premier League.

Klopp’s final game in the Liverpool dugout saw the Reds defeat Wolves 2-0 as they finished the Premier League season in third place. And the 56-year-old has since been working on his padel tennis game.

“So five days ago – wow – was the big goodbye and I still try to process everything what happened that day and then in the days around,” Klopp explained in a post on his Instagram page.

“So slightly settled now but I’m actually not sure if I said it clear enough – thank you, thank you for everything. Thank you for the love, thank you for the support.

“Yeah, it was a wonderful day and yeah the best experience I could have ever imagined. Really, outstanding. And now what I’m doing, I follow my big passion, I try to improve my padel game.

“I started two days ago. Today is my third session and I started on an extremely low level. I didn’t play for a while and felt it immediately. But step by step I will get there. Bye.”

Klopp guided Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title in 2020 after leading them to success in the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2019. And the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager also brought FA Cup and Carabao Cup glory to Anfield.

Klopp proved to be a popular figure on Merseyside during his spell in England. And ahead of last weekend’s clash he admitted he was unable to pinpoint why the Reds supporters had taken to him so much.

“I can’t. I try to explain why the people like me so much. I don’t understand it properly. We never really disappointed them,” Klopp exclaimed.

“The club is special, the club means the world to so many people. Emails, letters – if I answer them all I’m here until 2028. I apologise. I couldn’t sort tickets for the last game, there were a lot of requests.

“LFC TV had me read letters yesterday. With one, I burst into tears. Football changes lives and I know that. We did that. Experience is there to learn from. Keep doing it for the next manager and you will feel the same way. We have very special supporters. The last nine years meant the world to them. I’m happy about that.”
