Jude Bellingham was quick to send a message after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s England performance
Liverpool boss Arne Slot will have be boosted by the impressive England performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold on Monday, as the Three Lions pulled off a comfortable victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Alexander-Arnold played a commanding role in the victory, and capped his performance off with a sublime volleyed goal taken from the tightest of angles.
It was a performance which immediately prompted praise from Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, who wasted no time in making a public show of how good he believed Alexander-Arnold has played.
Bellingham lauded the 25-year-old Liverpool fullback, who scored twice sandwiching goals from Cole Palmer and Harry Kane securing a solid win for Gareth Southgates squad ahead of the European Championships.
Fresh from claiming Champions League glory on Saturday and yet to join his England teammates, he didnt hold back on the praise, responding “My boy,” to Alexander-Arnold’s celebratory Instagram post.
The positive words came as a little surprise, with Bellingham and the Liverpool man known to be best mates in the England squad.
Such a captivating performance, endorsed by Bellingham, gives food for thought to new Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who is expected to be making a decision on whether to keep Alexander-Arnold purely as a midfielder for his era as Anfield chief.
Alexander-Arnold is set to be crucial for Slot, and will resume his role as vice captain of the club under Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds had an encouraging 2022/23 campaign, finishing third in the Premier League and making a coveted return to the Champions League after being absent for a season.
Yet, it’s a summer of considerable transition at Anfield, ushered in by Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp, who hung up his managerial hat after leading Liverpool for nearly nine years.
Interestingly, Alexander-Arnold’s exceptional performance has now given manager Southgate a selection dilemma less than a fortnight before England’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia.
Southgate has always been sceptical about Alexander-Arnold’s role as a right-back, but his brilliant performance in a three-man midfield at St James’ Park means he may have to heed Bellingham’s advice and the wider reaction to Alexander-Arnold’s performance, potentially giving the Liverpool man a starting spot in this summer’s finals.
At Liverpool, Slot will be aware that potentially putting AlexanderArnold into midfield would help save transfer budget for other areas on the pitch. By not having to buy a world class midfielder to create play, Slot could well invest in the forward line instead.
The Dutchman is said to be eyeing his first transfer after his initial days on the job.
Crysencio Summerville has been identified as a potential target for Liverpool this summer, as reported by the Mirror.
The 22 year old had an outstanding season in the Championship, netting 19 goals in 43 matches and earning the title of Player of the Season as Leeds United narrowly missed out on an immediate return to the Premier League.
It is reported the Reds are considering a £30m deal for the Dutchman this summer, with Leeds United preparing for potential bids.
