The England midfielder failed to add the Euros to the two titles he won with Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham demonstrated his class by spending time with Dani Carvajal’s young children following England’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. This certainly isn’t the first instance of the 21-year-old showing his compassionate side post-match as it was on full show last month.
After Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in June’s Champions League final, Bellingham was seen embracing several of his team-mates’ children in a heartfelt moment captured on camera, as the former Birmingham player was also seen celebrating Real’s win by dancing and high-fiving them.
However, he experienced a different emotion on Sunday (July 14) when he found himself on the losing side in the European Championship final. Despite this, the England midfielder displayed maturity as he congratulated his Real Madrid team-mate, along with acknowledging his two young sons, in the dugout.
Gareth Southgate comforted Bellingham after the final whistle
After offering congratulations to fellow Madrid star Nacho Fernandez and former team-mate Joselu, Bellingham briefly chatted with Carjaval’s children before joining his international team-mates in the tunnel. Even though it was a disappointing night for the Three Lions, Bellingham managed to set aside rivalry and exhibit humility beyond his years.
The defeat in Berlin marked Gareth Southgate’s final game as manager of the Three Lions, with the ex-Middlesbrough boss confirming his decision to step down in a statement released on Tuesday morning, reports the Mirror. Bellingham opened up about Southgate’s influence, expressing deep admiration and affection for the departing England manager.
“He is someone who, I think, in the last year or two as well, our relationship’s kind of gone a little bit past football, where I feel like I can open up to him a lot and I think that speaks volumes of the kind of man he is as well,” the midfielder said.
He continued to heap praise on Southgate as he added: “Whatever happens with Gareth, I’ll always respect him. If he stays, then I’ll be even more determined to win something for him because he deserves it.”
Bellingham also highlighted Southgate’s record during his eight-year reign: “Sometimes the numbers and the kind of statistics, the records don’t lie, he’s been our most successful manager since 1966. So whatever he decides, he will always have my respect and my love.”
