Jude Bellingham said Real Madrid team-mate Joselu will be ‘useless’ in training on Thursday
Jude Bellingham joked that Real Madrid team-mate will be ‘useless’ in tomorrow’s training session after the Spaniard bagged a memorable Champions League brace. Joselu’s two goals sealed a dramatic comeback against Bayern Munich and sealed Real’s place in the Champions League final.
The Spaniard is best known to Premier League fans for an underwhelming spell in England with Stoke and Newcastle. But he powered Real into the European final with two late strikes after coming off the substitutes’ bench.
Midfielder Bellingham said that Joselu will struggle to sleep tonight and quipped that his colleague will be terrible in tomorrow’s training session.
Bellingham told TNT Sports: “I’ve always said it doesn’t matter who scores the goals. I don’t think he’ll be sleeping much tonight – he’ll be useless in training tomorrow!
“Nah, honestly, he deserves it. He’s been an amazing member of the squad the whole season. This is his night.”
Joselu scored two dramatic late goals to seal Real Madrid’s passage into the Champions League final
Los Blancos came from behind to beat Bayern at the Bernabeu. Alphonso Davies, who has been strongly linked with a summer switch to the Spanish side, gave the Bavarian outfit the lead with a thumping right-footed drive.
Real saw a Mathjis de Ligt own goal ruled out for a foul, before Joselu came off the bench to score twice. Bellingham can now help his club win their 15th Champions League title and their sixth in 10 years.
“You come here and they talk about how they’ve had the 14th [Champions League title] and how they want the 15th. The lads all say the same,” Bellingham added.
“That’s why I love being here, you can never be settled. You’re always in a dangerous position when you’re relaxed and when you’re comfortable. Here, they don’t give you that chance which is the best thing in football.”
Fate has sealed Bellingham a Champions League final showdown with former club Borussia Dortmund on June 1.
He continued: “Yeah, at Wembley, against Dortmund – it’s a weird one, isn’t it? I can’t believe it. I’m so looking forward to it and the atmosphere, the game itself… unbelievable.”
Asked if he would have preferred to face another team, the 20-year-old responded: “Anyone who has reached the final at this stage of the competition has earned the right to be there. To cherry-pick would be unfair.
“We’ve got here because we deserve to. They’ve got there because they deserve to. That’s what the final is all about and hopefully it will be a great game.”
