Jota might not have spent a long time playing for Celtic but it was certainly impactful. He was one of the club’s best players over his two seasons at Parkhead as they re-established themselves as the top team in Scotland following a forgettable 20/21 campaign. The Portuguese winger played a key role in winning five trophies under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
Jota’s time at Celtic came to an end earlier than expected. He left for Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 for a Scottish-record £25 million transfer fee.
Jota’s stint at Al-Ittihad has proven to be a bit of a nightmare for him though. He has barely featured and has been linked with a move away for several months now without anything materialising.
As reported by TV 24 (via Football Scotland), a return to Celtic has also often been talked about and Jota would love to make that happen. But the high salary he will be on at Al-Ittihad is likely to get in the way of that happening.
It would be safe to say that Celtic fans would love to see Jota back at Parkhead as well. But at the time being, unless there is an adjustment to be made, it does not seem to be something that will be possible for the Hoops.
Celtic did sign Luis Palma last summer and the Honduran winger did impress a lot early on, even when it came to the Champions League-level. But his form faded away in the second half of the campaign.
Celtic fans will be hoping for more consistency from Palma next season. It might not be the worst idea in the world if the club end up signing another winger in the summer transfer window as well.
