Jorginho highlights Arsenal advantage in Liverpool title race after West Ham win

Jorginho believes Arsenal’s home advantage could give them an advantage over the coming months.

The Gunners are set to leave London only once until late January, with a short trip to Brighton, while rivals Liverpool and Manchester City will each clock up over 3,500 miles in travel during the same period.

With Arsenal venturing just 150 miles from their base, Jorginho believes this could keep Mikel Arteta’s squad fresher during the season’s busiest period.

Arsenal play eight of their next 12 matches at the Emirates, including a clash with Manchester United on Wednesday, before local derbies against Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Brentford are on the horizon.

After thrashing West Ham 5-2 on Saturday, Jorginho remarked: “I think it might help. But we need to be ready for anything and trying to win in any context. We need to try and use our strength at home to win as much as possible.”

Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen acknowledged West Ham’s dismal performance, stating after the defeat: “To be 4-0 down at home in the first half is unacceptable.”

The Hammers’ captain is calling for a strong response in their upcoming match against Leicester on Tuesday night. Head coach Julen Lopetegui is under pressure again following the disheartening loss to Arsenal, which undid the optimism from last Monday’s victory at Newcastle.

Despite a brief rally featuring goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson Palmieri, West Ham were never really in the match after falling 4-0 behind early on.

Bowen expressed his disappointment, stating: “It was hugely disappointing. I think with the way we started the game, the goals that we conceded, and the position we found ourselves in at 4-0 down after 36 minutes, it was never a good thing.

“At 4-2 we thought it could have been a different game, and we felt the energy. It was a lot better from us, but we conceded another penalty, and from that point it’s difficult.

“It wasn’t a good day for us, and we’re disappointed for the game to finish in the way it did. For us to be 4-0 down at home in the first half is unacceptable.

“The goals were very easy to avoid, and as a team we made too many mistakes. And against a top team like Arsenal, you’re going to get punished.”
