Jorginho explains why Arsenal are better than Chelsea right now

Arsenal star Jorginho has opened up on why he believes why his club are in a better position than Chelsea at the moment having moved across London in January 2022.

The Italian midfielder has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s squad amid back-to-back second placed finishes in the Premier League, with the Gunners heavily tipped to challenge strong again this time around.

On the contrary, the Blues are onto their fourth different manager since the 32-year-old left, with the club criticised for their chaotic transfer policy after finishing sixth last season, only good enough for UEFA Conference League qualification.

And despite winning the Champions League, Europa League, World Club Cup and European Super Cup during his own stint at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho now argues that the mindset at Arsenal now sets them apart from Chelsea.

“The only thing I can talk about is when Mikel is here,” he told the Seaman Says podcast via Betway.

“At Chelsea, in any context, any situation, Chelsea would get a trophy. Whatever it was Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, Europa League – something to take home.

“It didn’t happen at Arsenal before, but the mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win. Sometimes it doesn’t work out but the willingness and the hard work is there.”

The former Napoli man also credited his Spanish boss for his innovation in making the players understand the magnitude of the club. And he said his methods ensure the players remain motivated to land a first top-flight title since the 2003/04 campaign.

Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.

“The way you train every day, the information you have – even the pictures on the walls at the training ground, everything in that atmosphere is about winning,” he added. “It’s really good because Mikel put up all these messages that you see there.

“It gets into your mind when you see it again and again, and you start to believe it. You go in and see that every day and then you get into the habit. It’s really good because you have the motivation, and all we want to do is win.

“The history of Arsenal is so big that everyone knows about it. It’s just not possible to not know about it. And this mentality is back now so we just need to keep working the way we are doing. Of course, the expectation is quite high from all of us because who doesn’t want to win? We work so hard, so why not to expect and want to do that?”

Jorginho has made 52 club appearances, although is yet to appear this season having been an unused substitute in all three Premier League matches. His lack of game time has led to him being linked with a move to Galatasaray, where the transfer window remains open until Friday.

However, that deal is now unlikely to go through after Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard returned from international duty on crutches this week. That’s followed new midfield signing Mikel Merino also being ruled out for several weeks, leaving Arteta short of midfield cover.
