Jessica Edgar will join Chris Dittmann Racing for the upcoming British F4 round at Zandvoort to prepare for her F1 Academy campaign, alongside fellow F1 Academy driver Carrie Schreiner and in a grid that will feature six female racers.
Jessica Edgar is set to join the British F4 grid for the upcoming sixth round of the season at Zandvoort, teaming up with Chris Dittmann Racing.
The 19-year-old British racer therefore joins fellow F1 Academy driver Carrie Schreiner at the team, with both aiming to collect extra mileage and prepare ahead of the fourth round of the all-female series.
Edgar, in her second season of F1 Academy, will thus return to the Dutch circuit after scoring two fourth place finishes in 2023 – in addition to the two day pre-season test in F1 Academy.
After making her racing debut in 2022 in GB4 Championship, Edgar will make her return in a mixed-gender F4 series in the highly-competitive British F4, becoming the sixth female driver to enter a round in 2024.
“I’m pleased to announce that I will be racing at Zandvoort with Chris Dittmann Racing as it is my favourite track, so I’m super excited to be competing there twice this year”, Edgar commented. “Entering British F4 is a great opportunity for me to have more seat time so I can be as prepared for my 2024 campaign in F1 Academy. Hopefully, we can do well and carry on the strong results the team already has had.”
Edgar was arguably one of the drivers that improved the most in her first F1 Academy season, having entered the series as one of the youngest drivers and with only one prior year of single seaters under her belt.
Coming from a racing family, she made her karting debut aged four and quickly made a name for herself in the British karting scene. She stepped up to cars in 2022, contesting the inaugural GB4 Championship, before moving to the all-female F1 Academy in 2023.
Jessica secured a podium in her first ever race, a third place at Red Bull Ring that would be one of four podiums. The only F1 Academy driver to complete every race in 2023, she eventually scored her first pole position and first victory at the season finale in COTA.
In her sophomore campaign, Edgar is currently backed by American Express and has so far secured a fourth place at Jeddah as her personal best of the season. She scored points at both Miami and Barcelona.
Three F1 Academy drivers will therefore race in the British F4 series at Zandvoort – Abbi Pulling, Carrie Schreiner and Jessica Edgar, who will be joined also by series regulars Chloe Chong, Ella Lloyd and Nina Gademan, in one of the highest female participation in FIA-sanctioned F4 mixed-gender fields.
Practice will take place on Thursday 11th July, while qualifying is scheduled for Friday 12th. Two races will be held on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
