Jamie Carragher has son James and daughter Mia with wife Nicola
Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher has added to his legacy on the pitch with a successful punditry career. The 46-year-old became the Reds’ second-longest serving player with an impressive 737 appearances during his 17-year career.
He won three League Cups, two FA Cups, a UEFA Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and, most memorably, the 2005 Champions League, while also representing his country 38 times. After retiring in 2013, he quickly transitioned into broadcasting, signing a contract with Sky Sports for the following season.
His Monday Night Football partnership with Manchester United legend Gary Neville was an instant hit with viewers, which is why they continue to be a mainstay of Sky’s Premier League coverage more than a decade later. His work both on and off the pitch has allowed him to build a comfortable life away from football.
What is Jamie Carragher’s net worth?
During his playing days, Carragher signed several contracts at Anfield. After being voted fans’ Player of the Year for the third time at the end of the 2006/07 season, he signed a new five-year deal with a weekly wage of around £80,000.
This increased again with a two-year extension in 2010, with his annual salary believed to have peaked at £5million a year – or £96k a week. As for Sky, it’s reported they pay him around £1m every season – and that’s without taking into account his Champions League work for CBS Sports.
Carragher has also held various newspaper column roles and has his own company, Jamie Carragher Promotions Ltd. Celebrity Net Worth claim he’s currently worth $21m (£16m) as a result of his various ventures.
Nicola met her future husband before he was a footballer
Who is Jamie Carragher’s wife?
Carragher has known wife Nicola since their school days, although they only began dating when he started emerging into Liverpool’s first team at 18. The couple tied the knot in 2005 and recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.
Nicola runs her own interior design business and has been credited by Carragher as his rock, particularly during the toughest time of his life when he faced suspension from Sky in March 2018.
He was videoed spitting at a car after being taunted by a Manchester United fan following Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat. He reflected on that tough period of his life in an interview with Alastair Campbell.
Carragher said: “We were devastated by it really, you go back and think the aftermath of it, you do interviews and apologising, and I had to come back to my family that day, sometimes you think back and think how did you get through it.
“I just snapped, can’t explain why I did it. It will probably haunt me for the rest of my life. It’s probably taken me six to 12 months to get over it in some ways.
“I got great support at the time, I was very lucky with that. As soon as I got home I told my wife, I knew straight away, I just thought ‘oh my god’. My wife was unbelievable for me.”
Both James and Mia are finding success in their chosen fields
Who are Jamie Carragher’s children?
Before they wed Carragher and Nicola welcomed James, 21, and Mia, 20, into their lives. Their son followed in his father’s footsteps and joined Liverpool’s academy back in 2011.
He moved to Wigan Athletic in 2017 and made his professional debut for them in 2021. It’s been far from smooth sailing for the young defender, though, with numerous injuries to his knee taking its toll on the family.
Carragher candidly discussed it during an episode of the Stick to Football podcast. He revealed he cut short a holiday to be there for his son following a setback in 2022, recalling: “As soon as I get that phone call I’ve booked a flight that night straight away, holiday’s finished for me.
Carragher’s son is a centre-back like he was
“I’ve gotta get home. Because I know he can’t be at home on his own with this because his big thing was ‘I’m back for pre-season’. And seeing him and what we went through last summer to try to get to the bottom of it… I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. It was probably one of the darkest moments of my life, really emotional.”
James has had loan spells with Oldham Athletic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle and after battling back to fitness, he recently made his EFL debut with Wigan in League One. Meanwhile, his sister Mia is also making her own significant strides in life.
A multi-talented model, actress, dancer and singer, she honed her skills at Liverpool’s Rare Studios. Mia’s already appeared in One Night in Istanbul (2014), The Gathering (2024) and Watering Hole (2024).
