Arne Slot hit back at Gary Neville’s pre-season prediction on Tuesday
Jamie Carragher has wasted no time getting one over on Gary Neville after Arne Slot fired a subtle dig at the ex-Manchester United star.
Liverpool have enjoyed a stellar start to the Premier League season and currently sit nine points clear after 13 matches.
As Christmas begins to close in, the Reds are dreaming of a second Premier League title in five years – something that was unthinkable when Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Neville was among those expecting Slot and co. to miss out on a title challenge first time around, with the Dutch manager asked about the player-turned-pundit’s prediction on Tuesday.
Asked about Neville making a U-turn on his pre-season prediction, Slot replied: “Is that the first time he did so? He had a different opinion at the start of the season about us!”
Before conceding: “Which probably most people had so he was not the only one except for our fans.”
Carragher didn’t need any invitation to use this as an opportunity to get one over on his Sky Sports colleague, with the former Liverpool defender reposting the clip of Slot digging out Neville on X.
Neville had labelled Liverpool ‘strong favourites’ following their weekend win over Manchester City, telling Sky Sports: “It’s an unbelievable performance from Liverpool.

Arne Slot has already endeared himself to the Anfield faithful
“The people who have appointed [Slot], the people who’ve created the stability, the players, most of all, in the sense of getting behind him. It’s really incredible what we’re watching…
“There’s a real expectation but they’ll be very, very strong favourites. Nine points clear of Arsenal, 11 points clear of Manchester City and there’s still four or five months to go. The title race doesn’t start until April. We’re just in early December.”
With City boss Pep Guardiola having recently conceded his side aren’t title challengers right now and Arsenal having been left in Liverpool’s wake, Slot would be forgiven for getting giddy about his side’s current performances.
But the ex-Feyenoord man has urged his players to keep their feet on the ground, saying: “It’s not that special for us to be on top of the Premier League or Champions League. This club, this team, these players are used to be top of the league and competing for every trophy.

“They have experienced this. They also know it’s a long season and to win the league against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and City – because I see those three as our main competitors – that you have to be on top of our game for 10 months.
“We’ve seen the quality of the three already and know we have to stay on top of our game. We now face Newcastle who beat Arsenal and Chelsea at home, and drew with City. They don’t need me to tell them how tough a game it will be.”
Liverpool’s title charge continues away to Newcastle United this week.
