Jadon Sancho has credited Chelsea’s success this season to their large squad, stating that the intense competition for places keeps everyone on their toes – which is driving everyone to higher heights. The Blues boast one of the largest squads in the Premier League, with several players expected to depart in January in search of regular game time.

However, Sancho believes that the fierce competition for spots has made training sessions incredibly competitive, with no room for complacency. He suggests that this is fuelling their push towards the top of the Premier League as they emerge as title contenders.

Sancho said: “Training’s really intense. You can’t have one single off-day in training because you know how intense it is.

“Hopefully we can carry on performing and get more points. I just think, because everyone’s so young, everyone is just motivated.”

Enzo Maresca’s side currently sit second in the table, unbeaten in nine games, and topped their Europa Conference League group with a perfect record. Despite being only 24, Sancho feels like a seasoned player in a squad filled with promising youngsters.

He said: “It’s amazing – so many young players, great talent. It’s kind of crazy because I’m actually one of the oldest.

“It’s great competition for us. The manager has his ways of playing and all the lads are in tune with what he wants.”

Meanwhile, Sancho’s current situation sees him on loan from Manchester United, and despite being a lad who grew up supporting Chelsea, he’s keen on staying at Stamford Bridge.

With the change in management at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are not looking to amend the terms that initially sent him south. Chelsea’s arrangement to sign Sancho involves a loan with a compulsory purchase next year, an agreement which both parties fully expect to fulfil.
