Jadon Sancho has set up two goals in his first two Chelsea games
Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea form has caught the eye of former Manchester United team-mates Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood.
The Red Devils will shoulder a huge financial loss when Sancho’s loan move is made permanent for £25million next summer. After three underwhelming seasons at Old Trafford, club chiefs admitted defeat and allowed him to join one of their Premier League rivals on deadline day.
That decision could come back to sting United, as Sancho has started his Chelsea career looking razor-sharp. He came off the bench to assist Christopher Nkunku’s winning goal at Bournemouth last weekend, before creating Nicolas Jackson’s opener at West Ham in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Despite their ties to United, Pogba and Greenwood both rejoiced in Sancho shining away from Old Trafford. The winger marked Chelsea’s 3-0 win over the Hammers with an Instagram post captioned: “Solid performance from the boys, have a great weekend blues!”
Greenwood was one of the first people to show his support, posting a clapping emoji in the replies. Pogba’s response was also short and sweet, but just as complimentary, as he simply wrote: “Him”.
After being sold by United during the summer, Greenwood is also enjoying his football away from Old Trafford. The 22-year-old has made a blistering start to life at Marseille, netting five goals in his first four games.
Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba previously played together at Man Utd
Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are all believed to be monitoring Greenwood’s situation with a view to a future transfer. United would be due 50 per cent of the transfer fee due to a sell-on clause they included in his move to Marseille.
The tale of Pogba’s post-United career could hardly be more different. The French World Cup winner was plagued by injuries after returning to Juventus in 2022, and he received a four-year doping ban in February this year.
Sancho will hope to follow in Greenwood’s footsteps by kicking on to better things, and in Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, he has a firm supporter. “[I’m] very happy, very happy for him,” he said after the win over Bournemouth. “He was very good.
“I have a feeling that Jadon is a guy that needs love. This is what I thought when I spoke with him before he joined us. I said, I know Jadon very good because I watched him many, many times in the past and I know what he can give us.”
