Jadon Sancho appears to be a player who needs the right environment to shine. He never really got going at Manchester United amid a turbulent time for the club following his £73million arrival in 2021. But he reignited his flame on his return to Borussia Dortmund in the second half of last season.

And he has continued to look more like his old self at Chelsea, enjoying a bright start to his loan after escaping Old Trafford on deadline day.

Sancho’s switch to Stamford Bridge raised eyebrows, given the wealth of attacking talent Enzo Maresca already had at his disposal, courtesy of Todd Boehly’s free-spending recruitment strategy.

But he has wasted no time in diminishing all doubt, producing a series of eye-catching performances at the dawn of his life as a Blues player.

Sancho was named the Player of the Match on his debut after coming on as a half-time substitute against AFC Bournemouth earlier this month.

The 24-year-old provided the assist for Christopher Nkunku’s late winner in the 1-0 triumph at the Vitality Stadium, earning him a start against West Ham United a week later.

And he teed up Nicolas Jackson’s first goal in the 3-0 rout at the London Stadium, once again earning rave reviews for his exploits.

Sancho was at it again as he made his second successive start when Brighton and Hove Albion visited West London on Saturday.

He first won the penalty for Cole Palmer’s second strike with a clever run before assisting the final goal of his fellow forward’s record-breaking first-half quartet.

Sancho has already equalled his season-best Premier League assist tally for United, where he registered six – three in 29 games in the 2021/22 season and three in 26 2022/23 appearances.

The England international is outshining every member of Erik ten Hag’s attacking department, which has started the campaign misfiring.

Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are United’s creative players who have featured more than Sancho this term.

However, the four of them combined can only match the former United winger’s current assist tally. Garnacho, Amad and Fernandes have one each.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui – also one a-piece – are the only other United players to have registered a Premier League assist.

It was likely never going to click for Sancho at United – especially as long as Ten Hag remains manager following the pair’s public row that ultimately set the spark for his exit alight.

He will join Chelsea permanently for as much as £25m next summer, but he is proving exactly why he was valued almost £50m higher within the walls of Old Trafford three years ago.
