Paul Gascoigne has issued a stern warning to Man City star Jack Grealish.
Paul Gascoigne has urged Jack Grealish to leave the party life behind and knuckle down at Manchester City.
Despite an injury-ridden campaign, Grealish was expected to be included in Gareth Southgate’s side for the European Championship in Germany.
Much to the surprise of many, the former Aston Villa ace was left out of the final 23-man squad, with Grealish forced to watch on as his team-mates reached another Euros final.
But following his England snub, Gascoigne has told Grealish now is the time to stop partying and focus on his football.
Speaking to Techopedia, Gascoigne claimed: “Obviously it’s pre-season, I think he spent 50 grand on a night out in Dubai when he didn’t make the England squad. Good on him. He’s got that money.
“He’s got quality, but he needs to knuckle down. I was the same. When I had a few days off, I’d go and celebrate. You had a drink and that.
“Sometimes I wish I hadn’t, I regretted it, but I still managed to perform. If you can perform on a Saturday then fair enough, the manager is not going to have a go at you.”
On the occasions he was fit last season, matching performances to the required level came as a struggle to Grealish, who less than 12 months earlier had been integral to City’s historic Treble win.
Jack Grealish impressed during City’s pre-season tour of the States.
But was left on the bench for City’s season opener against Chelsea.
However, following the alleged blowout in Dubai, Grealish has appeared to knuckle down and focus on getting his place back in both the City and England starting XIs.
With his first child on the way, the 28-year-old spent a good chunk of the summer working on his fitness, before enjoying an impressive pre-season tour in the United States.
But when quizzed on whether Pep Guardiola is the type to blast Grealish’s antics if necessary, Gascoigne was less sure.
The Italia 90 hero continued: “No, I don’t think so. I think he does it by just not playing you.

“I’ve seen that thing on Netflix with Man City. He’s funny in there, Guardiola. He gives them a bollocking, he’s nearly crying, and then turns it around and says, ‘I love you all, I really love you’.
“It’s like, wow. One minute he’s bollocking you and then he loves you all… So I wouldn’t like to be a young man to take that squad on. You know, but obviously, he’s got so much respect, but when he’s been manager of Barcelona and they’ve got the best players in the world. And Bayern Munich.
“But the thing is, he’s performed with them and all his teams have respect for him. And, as a matter of fact you see all these managers with suits and ties on. He just comes out, it’s like a Sunday morning stroll with a polo neck, or a t-shirt. Obviously he must have something that the players just absolutely love and adore him for and that’s why they perform for him.”
Grealish will be hoping to earn his first start of the season when City take on Ipswich Town this weekend.
