Ivan Toney is still available for transfer.
This is your one-week klaxon. That’s how long there is to run until the summer transfer window slams shut for Manchester United at 11pm on Friday, August 30. It’s been a busy maiden recruitment period for INEOS, and things aren’t likely to slow down across the upcoming seven days regarding incomings and outgoings.
United could complete their seventh senior sale in the next 24 hours as Will Fish undergoes a medical at Cardiff City ahead of a £2million switch.
Meanwhile, multiple other names remain in the shop window, including Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jadon Sancho.
Expect at least one more new arrival, too, to add to Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who all landed at Old Trafford before the season started.
Erik ten Hag is likely to reinforce his midfield before the deadline, while there could also be scope for a surprise attacking swoop if certain dominoes fall.
Express Sport looks at three deals that would make up a dream final week of the summer transfer window for United.
Blockbuster double loan
Sancho could be excluded from the matchday squad for the second successive game against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
United reportedly remain open to cashing in on the 24-year-old should a suitable offer arrive, and Juventus could be the club to provide it.
Manuel Ugarte is Man Utd’s top target this week.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A giants are weighing up an initial season-long loan offer with an obligation to buy Sancho next summer for around £40m.
His £250,000-a-week salary is currently viewed as a major stumbling block, but he could ease his demands if it becomes clear he is stuck on the fringes of Ten Hag’s plans.
A more likely blockbuster loan appears to involve Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who has emerged as United’s priority transfer target at the end of the window.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the 23-year-old – who was absent from PSG’s opening weekend squad – is pushing to join the Red Devils.
And it’s claimed that the two clubs are growing closer to striking an agreement in the form of a season-long loan with an obligation to buy Ugarte.
The proposed fee is said to be at the centre of ongoing negotiations, with PSG keen to recoup the £51m they paid Sporting Lisbon for his signature last summer.
But there is reported confidence that United will get their man before the deadline, adding much-needed quality to Ten Hag’s engine room.
Ivan Toney arrives
Brentford manager Thomas Frank all but confirmed that Ivan Toney will be leaving the club this summer after excluding him from his squad against Crystal Palace last weekend.
There is reportedly strong interest in the 28-year-old striker from Saudi Arabia but there has yet to be an approach to satisfy him and Brentford.
United have already added attacking firepower in Zirkzee, who scored the winning goal off the bench on his debut in last Friday’s 1-0 victory against Fulham at Old Trafford.
However, if Sancho departs, Zirkzee may be required to cover on the right of Ten Hag’s attacking, which could, in turn, leave Rasmus Hojlund without competition up front.
Toney’s asking price will heavily determine whether a surprise late swoop is even a possibility.
But he represents a reliable goalscorer with Premier League and international experience and would surely be an enticing option if the budget allows.
Toney would not only support Hojlund and Zirkzee’s development to benefit United in the long-term, but he would almost guarantee to help improve on last season’s measly 57 league goal tally.
The M16 giants may require a couple more permanent exits rather than loans to fund such a move, though, and it must be deemed unlikely.
