International manager lauds Liverpool youngster who is ‘so quick’

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has been singing the praises of Liverpool youngster Ben Doak.

Doak is on the books at Anfield after signing last year and has already made a big impression in the youth ranks.

The teenager has featured in and around the first-team and has already caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp.

And it seems at international level, Doak won’t be far away from making a big impression either.

Steve Clarke praises Liverpool youngster Ben Doak

Speaking about a number of Scotland’s young players for Football.Scotland, Clarke admitted he has his eye on Doak.

Praising the Liverpool man, Clarke said that while there can’t be too much expectancy right now, Doak is a player on his radar for the future.

“He’s an attacker and probably a really difficult player to play against. Because he just runs. He’s so quick and he can go either way. You could probably play him as a striker. Just ask him to run in behind teams and stretch them,” Clarke said.

“Again, at 17 he’s just a youngster. But he’s been in and around the Liverpool first team, without making the breakthrough.

“That’s not a criticism because it’s difficult to do at a club like that. Hopefully going forward [Doak and Aston Villa‘s Rory Wilson] can be a big part of our future.”

RTK’s View: We have a player on our hands

Anyone with half a footballing brain who watches Ben Doak can see that he has something a bit special in the locker.

Doak might not quite be first-team ready yet but he won’t be far off. In fact, we’d not be surprised to see him in the squad next season. That, or he gets a loan move to a top Championship club at the very least.

While all the talk has been about the big money signings in recent times, Liverpool snatching Doak from over the boarder seems a masterstroke.
