Inter could emulate “Guardiola kryptonite” Conte approach vs Man City
Inter Milan could look to former coach Antonio Conte for inspiration when they face Man City next month.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the Nerazzurri could adopt the “Guardiola kryptonite” approach that the 53-year-old coach has used to get the better of the Cityzens in the Premier League.
Given the strength of City as a team, Inter will have to take a cautious approach in next month’s Champions League final.
Under coach Pep Guardiola, the Cityzens have looked genuinely unstoppable at times.
However, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is used to tweaking how he sets up his team in these kinds of matches.
The 47-year-old got a famous win against Barcelona in the Champions League group stage this season. This came about from an organized and ruthless defend-and-counter match plan, by and large.
Moreover, the ex-Lazio coach hasn’t been afraid to use counterattacking tactics in big matches. This has been seen in clashes with Napoli, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool among others over the past couple seasons.
Inter Could Follow Conte Blueprint Vs Man City
In the view of the Gazzetta, Inzaghi could look to a specific role model in setting up against City.
Whilst the coach has forged his own path since taking over from Conte at Inter, making the team more possession-oriented, Tutosport propose that it may pay of to really take cues from Conte against this City team.
The reason for this is the success that Conte has enjoyed against City during his time as Tottenham Hotspur coach.
The ex-Inter, Juventus, and Chelsea coach’s time at Spurs ultimately ended badly. However, there were some great moments for him.
Chief among these were wins that Conte masterminded over City.
This season, the former Nerazzurri boss secured a brilliantly gritty 1-0 win over the Cityzens. To date, this is the most recent league defeat that Guardiola’s team suffered.
Moreover, even though Spurs ultimately collapsed in the second half of a 4-2 loss to City in the reverse fixture, the 2-0 lead they took into halftime could be the blueprint for getting one over on this nearly invulnerable City side.
In his first season in charge last campaign, Conte also got a famous 3-2 win over City with Spurs.
For Tuttosport, Inzaghi should have a look at how the man he replaced at Inter has gotten the job done against this City team. The same approach could well be useful to him.
