‘Incredible’ Chelsea player now set to turn down major pay rise to leave the club

Reports have stated that Romelu Lukaku is set to turn down a major pay rise to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

According to the Evening Standard, the Belgian has his heart set on a move to Inter Milan, and is therefore not keen on the switch.

Lukaku has seemingly made his mind up that he does not see his future at Stamford Bridge, despite it being just two years since he made his big homecoming move.

In fact, it became clear that he wanted to return to the San Siro almost as soon as he left, with him burning plenty of bridges in West London in the process.

Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s reported willingness to work with the Belgium international, it is fully believed he does not see a future for himself at Chelsea.

Lukaku rejecting pay rise

It would be fair to say that he has probably played his best football of his career for last season’s Champions League finalists.

During his original spell there, he was described as ‘incredible’ by Ashley Young when they were teammates.

However, up to now a suitable offer has not come in from Inter, and therefore Chelsea will be looking elsewhere in order to make sure he leaves the club this summer.

One of these could come in from Saudi Arabia, who have been keen to take a number of players off Chelsea’s books.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and N’golo Kante have all made financially beneficial moves over there, and the 30-year-old has been the latest to receive that offer.

However, it seems as if the player is not going to be helpful to the club and move to the side who bids the most, which could see this saga run on.
