Barcelona star Ilkay Gundogan will captain Germany in their Euro 2024 last 16 clash with Denmark tomorrow.
The hosts clinched top spot in Group A with an unbeaten record from three group games.
Gundogan completed 90 minutes in all three games and scored in the 2-0 win over Hungary.
His experience and intelligence has been praised by head coach Julian Nagelsmann ahead of the knockouts.
Alongside his on pitch performances, Gundogan and his international teammates have also been praised for a financial gesture.
As per reports from Bild, via Mundo Deportivo, Gundogan and the squad will donate a percentage of their bonuses for progressing through the rounds at Euro 2024 to a homeless charity.
The report indicates each player will receive €100,000 if they reach the quarter finals of the competition.
Those amounts increase if the team progresses further as will the amount donated to social foundations in Germany.
Germany were eliminated at the last 16 stage of Euro 2020, following two successive semi final spots, but they have not won the tournament since 1996.
