Antonee Robinson is on Arne Slot’s radar
Antonee Robinson could be on the move as Arne Slot reportedly shows interest in bringing the dynamic left-back to Liverpool. Having emerged as one of the Premier League’s most promising full-backs, the 27-year-old’s journey began at Everton’s youth academy at age 11.
Despite signing his first professional contract with the Toffees in 2015, he never made a senior appearance and joined Wigan in 2019. After a single season with the Latics, Robinson secured a switch to Fulham for £2million in 2020.
His career could have taken a different turn when AC Milan came calling at the time, but a medical revealed an irregular heart rhythm, which put a halt to the Italian dream. Despite that setback and leaving the club where he grew up, Robinson harbours no regrets about his departure from Everton. He has openly shared: “Not one regret, no. Everton were always really honest with me, they just said, ‘we’ve got rid of a few players but we definitely need to keep Bainesy [Leighton Baines].
“We can’t get rid of Jags [Phil Jagielka], the captain, and lose Baines as well. It’s getting rid of so much of Everton in the changing room and he’s such a good player as well still. We’ve got him and [Lucas] Digne starts for us so you have to wait for two injuries to start so you’re not even making the bench at the minute so we think it’s best for you if you just leave,” reports the Mirror.
“It’s nothing to do with you, it’s just you need to play’. I am really thankful they were that upfront and honest with me because it gave me the chance to go away and progress elsewhere.” Since his move to Craven Cottage, Robinson has been a standout performer for Fulham, racking up 164 appearances across all competitions.
However, the defender could soon be returning to Merseyside, this time wearing Liverpool red instead of Everton blue. As per Give Me Sport, Slot’s team might be gearing up for a bidding war against Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City to secure the player’s signature.
Antonee Robinson has impressed at Fulham
Liverpool only added one new face to their squad over the summer – winger Federico Chiesa – and reports suggest the Reds are considering a winter window bid for Robinson. However, Slot may need to fork out a reported £40million to secure Robinson’s services, who still has three years remaining on his current contract at Craven Cottage.
Despite Liverpool’s current dominance in the Premier League, they have been struggling with their left-back position. Andy Robertson, their first choice, has been underperforming, suggesting that a new signing could provide a significant boost to their title hopes. In addition, the future of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield is uncertain.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires next summer, along with those of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, none of whom have yet agreed to extensions.
