Harry Maguire has addressed speculation about his future
Harry Maguire believes that he will remain at Manchester United next season, despite links to other Premier League clubs.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to orchestrate a major rebuild of the Red Devils’ backline this summer, with Raphael Varane departing and Victor Lindelof put in the shop window at Old Trafford to pave the way for new arrivals.
Leny Yoro has since joined the club from Lille and further defensive signings are anticipated, though Maguire does not think that he will leave as the result of those additions.
The England international has revealed that he has only received indications that his future lies at the Theatre of Dreams rather than elsewhere, despite being tipped to leave Erik ten Hag’s side in the coming weeks to raise funds.
He told Sky Sports: “Until I get told ‘you’re up for sale’ or ‘we want you to leave’, I want to play for this club and make it successful again. All the things I’m hearing and seeing, from everyone involved, is that I’ll be part of this club for the future.
“I’m a player with only a year left on my contract, with an option, but if they come to me and say they don’t want me any more, of course, I’ll look for options elsewhere, but that’s never been told to me.”
Harry Maguire is not planning for a move away from Old Trafford
Maguire’s contract with United expires next summer – though there is a one-year option in the deal – which has prompted former Red Devils star Dwight Yorke to suggest moving the ex-Leicester City star on sooner rather than later.
He told BoyleSports that he believes Maguire could be a good signing for Chelsea, who are also in the heart of a major rebuild, explaining: “Harry Maguire could sit out the last year of his contract and know he’s going to play at some point due to injuries, but United really need to be ruthless and get rid of him.

“Having said that, Maguire has shown that he is very capable of playing at the highest level still and elite clubs like Chelsea, who are trying to rebuild, might take a chance on Maguire. He can clearly still play at the level and a fresh start might just give him that injection to really perform again for another year or two at that top level. So you never know.
“I played until I was 36 so I’m never going to write someone off if they’re still in their early 30s. He’s still got the attributes to do that. With Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea, there’s a gap there for an experienced player like Maguire to move into.”
