Gavi likely to miss Euro 2024 with Barcelona confirm he has suffered ACL tear

Gavi’s hopes of playing at Euro 2024 with Spain have been dealt a massive blow after it was confirmed he has torn his ACL.
During the first-half of their 3-1 qualifying win against Georgia on Sunday night, the 19-year-old went down holding his knee.

He appeared to land awkwardly after trying to control the ball, with Gavi then seen leaving the pitch in tears.
Given his reaction, fears of a serious injury were quick to arise and the bad news has now been confirmed by his club Barcelona.
In a statement, the club said: “Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.
“The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.”
They have also allowed fans to send messages of support to the youngster online: “The Andalusian midfielder is a firm favourite amongst the fans.
“Gavi’s spirit and determination on the field are what defines him as a player and he gives absolutely everything in a Barca shirt. For that reason his injury is a big blow for all Barca fans and so here is a chance to send him a message of support.”
Such injuries can leave players sidelined for months, so it’s unlikely that he will feature again this season.
It’s also doubtful that he will be able to play at Euro 2024 next summer, a big blow to Spain’s chances of success in Germany.

Gavi has already made 27 appearances for his country despite his young age, scoring five goals from midfield.
He has also featured in 111 senior matches for Barcelona, breaking into the first-team in 2021 after rising through their La Masia academy.
