UK – Manchester City can win the league this weekend if they defeat Chelsea or if Arsenal fails to beat Nottingham Forest.
Man City vs Chelsea, Sunday May 21, kick-off 16:00
Manchester City can claim their first trophy of what could be a historic treble-winning season if they defeat Chelsea this weekend. There is a chance that the title will already be theirs if Arsenal lose to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Pep Guardiola‘s side then just needs to defeat Inter Milan in the Champions League final and Manchester United in the FA Cup final. If they are able to win all three competitions then they will go down in history as one of the greatest teams ever.
It is a daunting task to take on City at the Etihad, just ask Carlo Ancelotti. His Real Madrid side lost 4-0 in the Champions League to them this week. The Spanish side was outplayed and was restricted to long-range efforts. Chelsea -who lost to Los Blancos 4-0 on aggregate this season- will be quaking in their boots at the prospect of facing City.
The match sees Frank Lampard return to the stadium where he spent the final days of his Premier League playing career. He is synonymous with Chelsea but spent a brief spell at City after leaving the Blues. He even scored against Chelsea for City. His focus, for now, is on guiding the Blues through their final Premier League games of the season before Mauricio Pochettino takes over this summer.
Chelsea only managed a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest in their last match. Raheem Sterling scored twice but this weekend’s game will be a much tougher test for Lampard’s side.
Score prediction: Man City 3-0 Chelsea
West Ham vs Leeds, Sunday May 21, kick-off 13:30
West Ham may be into the final of the Europa Conference League. However, they are not mathematically safe from relegation just yet. A result for David Moyes‘ side against Leeds United this weekend would confirm that they will still be in the Premier League next season.
The Hammers do not have time to prepare for this one after they defeated AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands on Thursday night. Hammers fans will be hoping they do not suffer a European hangover after Pablo Fornals’ goal created history for the club
Leeds is still in the relegation zone, their manager Sam Allardyce fought many battles against the drop when he was West Ham’s manager. Allardyce will now be trying to get one over his former side to keep his current one in the division. Performances have improved at Leeds under Allardyce. They only lost 2-1 to Manchester City and they claimed a 2-2 draw with Newcastle. This match against West Ham is very important as they play Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.
Rasmus Kristensen scored a fantastic volley for Leeds when they claimed a point in their last game. This weekend Leeds may need another moment of magic if they are to stay in the division.
Score prediction: West Ham 2-1 Leeds United
Newcastle vs Leicester, Monday May 22, kick-off 20:00
Newcastle United took a big step towards Champions League qualification this week as they defeated Brighton 4-1. A win for Eddie Howe‘s side against Leicester City this weekend could secure it for them. Being in European football’s premier competition would dramatically improve the calibre of players that the Magpies will be able to recruit in the summer.
Their current side is not a bad one either. England internationals Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson both starred for Howe’s side against the Seagulls. Bruno Guimaraes who plays for Brazil was also on the scoresheet. Facing Newcastle is a daunting task for relegation-threatened Leicester.
Southampton were relegated last week and the same could happen to Leicester this weekend. Going down would be a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the Foxes who won the league just seven years ago. Their current side does not match the one that Claudio Ranieri had during the 2015/17 season. Only Jamie Vardy remains but he is now 36 and not getting any younger.
This match sees James Maddison come up against what could be his future side. Maddison has been heavily linked with joining Newcastle this summer, if Leicester go down then they will be forced to sell many of their top players.
Score prediction: Newcastle 3-0 Leicester
