Weston McKennie’s official Facebook page displayed a photo of him in a Man United shirt.
Weston McKennie was already an unpopular name among Leeds United supporters, but the midfielder’s latest stunt might’ve severed ties between the two parties even more. McKennie spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds, but left under unceremonious circumstances following the Whites’ relegation.
There had been plenty of optimism when McKennie penned a short-term deal with the then Premier League outfit. Compatriot Jesse Marsch originally signed the USMNT international, but just one week after McKennie arrived at Elland Road, the Leeds boss was sacked.
In came the equally disastrous Javi Gracia, whose tenure lasted all of 12 matches, before Sam Allardyce was appointed to try and save Leeds from the drop. Of course, the Yorkshire outfit were relegated back to the second tier, with McKennie returning to parent club Juventus at the end of the campaign.
However, any hopes of McKennie redeeming himself in the eyes of the Leeds faithful appear all but gone, with the midfield maestro having posted a photo of him sporting a Manchester United kit on social media. The photo – which was quickly taken down – had been posted to the 26-year-old’s official Facebook account and was captioned: “I’m here!”

Weston McKennie endured a dismal spell at Leeds United.
It comes after tensions between McKennie and sections of the Leeds fanbase had already flared following his exit from the club. In his final game for Leeds against Tottenham Hotspur last season, supporters could be heard chanting ‘you fat b*****d’ in his direction.
Members of McKennie’s party were quick to fight back, with Weston’s dad, John, taking aim at the Leeds fans on X. Speaking at the time, he said: “All the best to LUFC! For those who supported Weston in a hostile environment you have my respect! For those who failed to remember it’s a team sport you live to fight another day.”

Fast forward 12 months and Leeds are again in a stressful situation. Ahead of the final Championship game of the season, the three-time English champions are staring down the barrel of a second consecutive campaign in the second tier.
Daniel Farke’s men need to win their last game at home against Southampton, while hoping Huddersfield Town – who are all but confirmed to drop into League One – snatch a win away to Ipswich Town. Should the expected play out and Leeds miss out on automatic promotion, they’ll be condemned to the playoffs.
