Everton take on Liverpool at Goodison Park at 12:30pm tomorrow
Liverpool and Everton have issued a joint statement as they urged fans to take extra care when travelling to Saturday’s Merseyside derby due to Storm Darragh.
The Met Office has issued a rare red warning for parts of the UK on Saturday, with wind gusts up to 70mph expected on Merseyside.
The Premier League clubs are advising supporters to set off early for the match at Goodison Park to avoid any issues.
“Supporters attending Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park are advised to allow extra time for travel and remain alert to Met Office weather warnings,” the statement read.
“An amber severe wind warning has been issued by the Met Office for Merseyside from 1am GMT on Saturday, with wind gusts of 60mph to 70mph likely. The warning for wind is expected to remain in place until 6am on Sunday.
“Given the weather warning, fans are advised to allow extra time for their journey and take extra care.
“Supporters are also advised to keep a close eye on travel and weather guidance in their area to assist with travel planning for the Premier League fixture (12.30pm kick-off).”
Following the Welsh FA’s decision to postpone all matches in Wales, Cardiff City’s Championship game against Watford was cancelled. Newport County’s League Two home match against Carlisle United is still set to take place as planned.
Meanwhile, in Devon, Plymouth Argyle announced that their Championship match against Oxford United had been postponed.
Tomorrow is set to see the final Merseyside derby take place at Goodison Park. However, it may well be played amid chaotic conditions caused by Storm Darragh. Fortunately, travel issues for fans should be minimal due to the close proximity of the clubs.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will be hosting Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. Both they and Burnley, who are based slightly east of the warning areas, may avoid the extreme weather conditions.
