Euro 2024 winner Alvaro Morata has opened up on his impending divorce from his wife, which reportedly ignited just minutes after Spain’s triumph over England led to him filing for divorce.

The 31-year-old separated from his wife of seven years, Alice Campello, 29, in August. The pair have decided that there is no going back and they will jointly file for divorce following their row in Berlin, which proved to be fatal for their marriage.

The former Chelsea striker started the final up front for Luis de la Fuente’s side and celebrated his first international title with La Roja, who won 2-1 against Gareth Southgate’s England thanks to goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal.

But his joy turned to sorrow shortly after the final whistle when he became involved in a heated row with his wife, Alice Campello, according to Marca.

It is claimed Campello was keen for only herself, her children and their friends to be on the pitch to celebrate with Morata – dealing a brutal snub to his family and parents.

However, Morata has sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the collapse of his marriage after confirming he and his wife they would be filing for divorce.

The former couple got married in 2017, when Morata he was playing for Chelsea at the time. They went to have four children together.

Morata, who is reportedly set to hand over half of his estimated £45million fortune, denied reports claiming he had cheated on Campello with another woman. Instead, he explained their disagreement arose after Morata revealed his plans to play in Italy again.

“I am devastated, but I swear that I never cheated on her [Alice Campello]. She’s the most important woman of my life,” Morata said, as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Alice wanted to stay in Spain and didn’t want to move again. Despite different views, we still have an excellent rapport for the well-being of our four children. There won’t be any second thoughts.”

Morata, who has also played for Juventus and Real Madrid in his distinguished career, made his decision clear when he signed for AC Milan from Atletico Madrid for £12million this summer.

The Spaniard made his Serie A debut with the Rossoneri at San Siro on Saturday and contributed to a 2-2 draw against Torino thanks to a late goal.
