Erling Haaland announced that he and his partner Isabel Haugseng Johansen are having their first child after becoming Norway’s all-time record goalscorer on Thursday. The Manchester City striker confirmed the exciting news on a record-breaking night in the UEFA Nations League.

Norway beat Slovenia 3-0 in Oslo to move top of League B, Group 3 ahead of Austria, their most recent opponents and Kazakhstan at the halfway mark.

Haaland, captaining his nation in Martin Odegaard’s injury absence, equalled Jorgen Juve’s record with his first goal before eclipsing it by completing his brace.

The 24-year-old broke the deadlock on seven minutes after Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak could only parry a long-range strike into his path.

Unmarked in the box, Haaland fired a right-footed first-time strike through Oblak’s legs, much to the delight of the Ullevaal Stadion crowd.

Alexander Sorloth doubled the hosts’ advantage shortly after half-time before teeing up Haaland’s second just after the hour mark, finding the bottom left corner with his stronger foot.

That was his 34th goal for Norway in 36 caps, an astonishing rate that has helped him surpass Juve’s tally of 35, the last of which he notched in 1934.

Juve represented his country 45 times between 1927 and 1938, and his goal record was the longest-standing out of all the 211 FIFA-affiliated nations.

It’s the latest record Haaland has already broken this season, having netted the most times in the first three games of a Premier League season with seven goals.

He also shattered Micky Quinn’s 22-year record by becoming the fastest player to reach the ten-goal mark, needing just five matches.

After full-time in Norway, Haaland took to social media to confirm that he was expecting his first child with Haugseng Johansen.

The City No. 9 posted a picture sucking his thumb with the ball under his shirt, captioned it with a baby emoji and a soon emoji.

“There are many fathers in the team now. The national team manager in 25 years’ time faces a bright future,” Norway manager Stale Solbakken joked.

Meanwhile, close friend and team-mate Sander Berge told Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet: “I am very happy for him.

“It is very nice to know that he will become a father together with his partner, Isabel. I look forward to following their journey as parents.”

Haaland will look to start expanding his gap from Juve when Norway travel to Linz to face Austria on Sunday.
